This is my first game since …hmm! Did I ever finish a game? Can’t really remember!?I started quite often but finished? When I heard about the ludumdare-competion I was sure from the beginning that I want to participate in that. A good possibility to have a bit pressure to finish something! Well, ok! I was quite ambitious and decided to try the jMonkeyEngine(Java-3D-Engine) and as it was my first game and also my first 3d-application the desaster-chance was about 100%. Most of the time was needed to learn about the engine and 3D-Basics. But because of the competionen I went on and at the end I finished! Haha! YES,…I produced a big BUG! Quite impossible for anyone to understand what to do! And the few that really tried it (Thank you all) were the chosen ones to meet the bugs!
The sourcecode was/is a mess! Any obfuscated code would seem to be plain in comparison to mine! Best would have been just to cancel the project! But this time I wanted to finish something and after a bit more than the 48h I finished something again! I called it “LD-Roads”. The game is still mess, but I tried to give it a look how a game could look like! Now I can proudly say, it is a game, maybe a trash-game but it is a game! HeHe…but with global Highscore! Maybe that makes it a bit more interesting to play. Finishing the game is quite easy. But trying to climb the scoreboard to be the number one will be a bit harder.
Oh,..I forgot the requirements. Well, if you can play CRYSIS or newer 3d-games LD-Roads won’t be a problem!
Have fun with it! I learned a lot….”Der Weg ist das Ziel!”
If you already read the ingame-instructions you know the goal of the game is to connect a startpoint with an endpoint. How can you achive this? You build a street or better you give order to build the street! And here comes the point. It differs extremely how long it takes to finish a streetpart:
- the longer the streetpart the longer the time for finishing that task
- the high/lower the elevation the longer the time
If you are in director mode (right click and showing a half sphere) you can place directors on nodes. After setting a director you can adjust the direction of the driector by left-clicking.
Not so much rules to think of. The second is the most important. So avoid building on different altitudes!
If all building-orders are finished but you want to build another streetpart it will need a short time until the workers are on the spot. So avoid letting the workers finish their work until you reached the end. Time is Points
There are always more possible ways to finish the level. You don’t have to take every Bonus/Helper-Stones. Getting all won’t give you an extra bonus or so. Just try to get as many points as possible.
After each level you see your level- and overall-score and the position you’ll have in the global rankings. If you want restart in order to improve just press R (also during the game).
You can also save camera-positions. To do this you can save 2 different views. ctrl+1 and ctrl+2 save the views and you can restore them with the keys 1 or 2.
