LD 17 - Isle of the Firepiss

Ok,…just a quick post. It was again a desaster. The theme was islands and I decided to create a RTS. After about 15h I realized that it might be too complex (also I had quite a lot done on the model/logic-side) and switched to a so easy third person shooter project…!? :D Totally irrational…well! I’m not satisfied with the result, but it is better than nothing. Have a look here:

Assemblee

Although I’m still working on a ludumdare Exploration-Level I entered the Assemblee-Compo. It is a very interesting one cause it is split up into two parts. Part one was especially for graphic gurus and componists to create content that should be used for part 2 to create a game out of it. It is about one week time now and I want to use my game-framework that I started developing with Exploration for that. Actually it makes a bit progress but still some needed software to implement before I can think of gameplay :D. And of course it will be very close if I can really finish something. As always I’m quite optimistic. Here a first screenshot:

After I hopefully finished this I want to finish “Lost in Exploration” and THEN I want to take part at the global game jam in cologne at the end of the month. :D Lots of wishes and a lots of doubts :D

One year ago it started all. My fire for game development was lit again and is still burning. Although I have to admit that most of the times I really was not able to finish anything countable as I’m much too ambitious. And this time? Well,…for sure I will think too big as well but this time maybe I’m that far that I can finish something let’s say in pre-alpha state that could be something like a game…. Well maybe! :D Everytime I’m quite optimistic…. :D

Ok 15,5 hours to go, that means for me to set the alarm on 5 o’clock in the morning. Good that we have today company christmas-party….. argh,… The first thoughts will for sure be some kind of “alcohol-driven”.

I’m sooo looking forward to this weekend….

Hehe,…last weekend I decided to take part at the miniLD#13 with Theme:Educational! Quite hard. Actually I found out that I really don’t know any stuff you could teach it in a game!? Well nilsf the host told we might go in the direction of gallileo or darwin. So I tought about creating a game that might teach you the planets of our universe! But all of this should be done in subconsious so I wanted to embed the learning stuff in a nice story… And here begins the fail!

It should become a shooter. The sotry should be somethingl ike the whole universe in under the power of an evil emperor and we, the heros, want to save the universe. For that you should have tasks on every planet. After or during the mission you should have needed knowledge about the planets in order to be faster or something like that! Hehe,…and the something like that shows that I again was to fast with starting and did too less thinking. At the moment I’m still too much doing non gameplay-related works what prevents me from fulfilling the mission! :D

To make a long story short I really came much further in the blender->jME pipeline and improved my game-framework so that upcoming projects might be developed much easier AND I will go on with that game! It is already quite nice flying over a planet and collect some items! The steering is not so good and you don’t have a feeling how high you are flying in order to catch that items…

Well will see what will happen…here two screenshots:

Mini-LD is waiting! This time they decided to have a very free time constraint. You can choose 48h until the end of october to do your work. Actually I wasn’t so happy with that cause I think that coding it the same time with different people is most of the fun. So it might be some lonly rangers doing their work and noone really cares about it!? Nevertheless this weekend I wouldn’t have enough time to do it so this rule is time good for me as I intend to invest the upcoming weekend for that…. Now I’m curious about the theme and looking forward for the competition.

At the moment I’m trying to add normalmaps to the stencilmaped objects. Actually I haven’t much experiense with shaders yet but it seems that with the use of the shader I used it was not possible use different texturesizes. But I’m on it and hope to solve that today.

7 days Compo: 20s monochrome strategy game

Ok…let’s give it a try. Again a compo. Task is to create a strategy game in monochrom playing in the 20s. Strategy game. This is not easy. After think quite a while I’m sure it will be hard to keep the user understand what’s all about the game. But nevertheless I will give it a try (altough I have the feeling I’m the only one beside the organizer that is participating :D )
